About Latvian Lats (LVL)

The Latvian official currency is the lats. Lats are each subdivided into santimi and there are commemorative coins distributed by the Bank of Latvia as well. The lats was reintroduced as the country’s official currency in 1993 after being replaced by the rublis for a short period of time. The Lats is currently under consideration to be replaced completely by the euro sometime in the near future.
